UGP 288 - What and Who Am I Chasing? Julie Morrison

Guest co-host Katie (Wilder) Warren joins the conversation for a special women’s podcast. Julie grew up LDS in Ogden, UT and married her high school sweetheart, who joined the LDS Church. They never married in the temple. Julie always wondered, “If this was God’s house, why would he keep anyone out of it?” Looking for her purpose, Julie assumed it was whatever the LDS Church taught her it was. She interpreted that as continually reaching for the next wrung of a never-ending ladder of goals. Julie’s value was in the materialistic things she had. Oddly, her husband gave his time to a nondenominational youth group that met in a friend’s garage Wednesday nights and weekends. Julie told him, “You’re not going to get anywhere in life doing that.” I’m out here climbing the ladder.

One day, her husband came home with the book Mormon Doctrine by Bruce McConkie. He asked, “Do you really know what you believe?” She thought - game on. I’m going to research this. She studied LDS history and doctrine and compared LDS beliefs to the Bible. What and Who am I chasing?! Sitting at her desk, she hears a loud voice, “You’re done.” She looked around and no one was there…later she heard, “Only the Bible. Now read me.” Julie says “I no longer put my hope in temporary things. The Bible is the authority of my life. My purpose is to be an ambassador for Christ and to share the gospel with everyone.” She now teaches the Bible to women in Utah and declares, “God can talk to you! I hear his voice. I can hear from him all the time.” Co-host Katie summarizes the common threads of a Christian testimony from Julie’s story.
